Youth Pastor Job Description
Desired Qualifications: Candidates for this position must have made a personal commitment to Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and must demonstrate this relationship through their life and testimony. Preference of joining as member of Greer Church of God of Prophecy for this position.
Overview: Part-time position to develop and maintain strategies that will allow Greer Church of God of Prophecy to minister to youth in a way that glorifies God, Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit. Provide a well–balanced program that will seek to win the lost to Christ and to help those who are Christians to mature in Christ and discover the personal gifts and abilities with which God has blessed them. Youth by definition include 7th - 12th grade students and College/Career youth through the age of 25.
Duties:
- Establish annual goals, objectives and plans to implement the youth ministry strategies.
- Develop a yearly budget of expected needs for the youth ministry and submit to Finance and Administrative Committee.
- Plan and oversee all youth activities and programs with a primary focus on Wednesday night youth services. This applies to youth retreats, mission trips, other special events.
- Research resources and make recommendations for developing the youth ministry programming.
- As possible, pursue and participate in continuing education events and training opportunities within youth ministry practices.
- Establish a friendly rapport with and among the youth through a variety of fun, and purposeful activities.
- Develop and promote biblically-based education through Bible studies and other programs.
- Encourage the youth to get involved in ministry and mission projects. Seek to provide them frequent opportunities to do so.
- Lead efforts in reaching out to unchurched youth in the community, engage them with the gospel, and involve them in the work of the church.
- Provide spiritual guidance and counseling to the youth as needed.
- Provide hospital visitation of youth or parent as needed.
- Recruit, train and oversee volunteer youth staff. Make sure that all volunteers submit proper paperwork for background checks before their initial work with the youth.
- Establish and develop a youth advisory board comprised of parents, youth and other key members of church. Lead meetings of this board at a minimum of once per quarter.
- Maintain open communication with church staff, parents, youth and members of the congregation. Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to assist in creating a culture that is intentionally intergenerational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries.
- Oversee fund-raising efforts for youth ministry needs.
- As possible, attend scheduled staff meetings.
Requirements:
- Must be a born-again believer in Jesus Christ.
- Must be a good Christian role model. References may be requested later in the selection process.
- Must be willing to undergo a mandatory background investigation.
- Regular and reliable attendance in worship services and in performance of job.
- Shall perform the duties of his position under the supervision/leadership of the Lead Pastor.
- Submit monthly report to Lead Pastor.
